With the onset of a mobile workforce, connecting callers has become a little trickier than it used to be. In the past, workers were traditionally based in the office, for set hours each day. These days, the move to work from home or work-on-the-go means that, while the workforce is available via mobile, connecting a call to mobile via existing corporate telephony can sometimes be difficult.
Thankfully, there is a solution – Cloud PBX.
What is Cloud PBX?
Most companies manage their telephone communications using a PBX (Private Branch Exchange) system, which is essentially hardware that acts as a private telephone switchboard and call control platform.
Cloud PBX delivers call control and a complete corporate telephony system from the same datacentres as Office 365 – and is a function of Skype for Business Online.
Cloud PBX works with your existing telecommunications carrier circuits with on-premises PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) connectivity. Rather than simply being your PBX in the cloud, it’s a flexible solution that also gives you the opportunity to improve your telephony systems gradually by integrating hybrid Cloud PBX benefits with your current PBX infrastructure.
You can simply have some users utilising your existing PBX infrastructure, but have your mobile workforce using Cloud PBX for all of their telephony requirements.
In this configuration, you connect Skype for Business software – namely Cloud Connector - to communicate between your existing PBX or PSTN Gateway and Cloud PBX in Office 365. This allows you to continue to use your carrier contract and circuits for phone calls while the users are hosted in Office 365.
In a nutshell, Cloud PBX:
- Integrates with your current telephony infrastructure
- Replaces call control functionality traditionally done with PBX systems but through Office 365
- Allows you to make, receive, and transfer business calls, wherever your workforce may be: In the home, on the road, using a phone pc or mobile device.
- Billed on a per user, per month cost
Ultimately, Cloud PBX enables your workforce to be flexible and offers your organisation’s telephony scalability, flexibility and mobility productivity PLUS you can deliver and manage calls from Office 365.
Work how you want, where you want and whenever you want to.
