Three pieces of technology your organisation can’t do without in 2016/17

We’ve crossed the finish line for the 2015/16 financial year, and we’ve seen some very interesting technological advancements made available to organisations. The question isn’t whether or not the technology’s out there – it’s what will really make a difference in the modern workplace.

With that in mind, we’ve put together our list of the top three pieces of tech your organisation should prioritise (if you don’t already use it) in the new financial year 2016/17

  1. Video conferencing equipment

We know that video conferencing has been said to save up to 50% of the meeting time (with meetings taking up an estimated 37% of an employee’s work day) but does your organisation use video conferencing technology to it’s fullest? Reliable, easy to use and relatively inexpensive video conferencing technology is now readily available and is a top ‘must have’ for any organisation of any size – and we would go so far as to say a must have also for any meeting room or huddle room, regardless of the size.

Video Conferencing technology doesn’t just save your organisation employee time, but can also help you better utilise (in many cases wasted) office space, in the form of small meeting rooms (or huddle rooms).

  1. Mobile capture technology

Using smart phones to capture data from paper documents can dramatically change the way your organisation does business. In a nutshell, mobile capture tech uses smart phones (or other mobile devices) to take a picture of paper documents and product a working digital copy. The ability to “snap up” printed pages with a mobile camera is a powerful one, and mobile capture is poised to have quite an effect on certain types of business.

The implications of being able use mobile capture technology to, for instance, help with user on boarding or other user/customer interactions are hugely appealing.

Of course, there are a few processes you will need to consider before it will truly impact your organisation the way it should:

  • Identify core processes where mobile capture will provide value
  • Insure your internal system is able to deal with the indexing and metadata handling that’s required when receiving large volumes of incoming digital documents
  • Think about whether an existing capture or document handling tool can be re-used, to avoid starting from scratch
  • Make sure there is an audit trail or chain of custody
  • Address security concerns

  1. Automation technology

If your organisation does not yet employ integrated Automation Technology, then this needs to be your first port of call in the new financial year. Using good automation technology to automate the mundane, repetitive tasks is an absolute must have for organisations of any size.
